Today was the final class in which we taught the children. Comparing it to the first class, I am astonished at the academic and personal growth that each student in that class has gone through. It is amazing to see how even a shy little girl can become one of the most active contributors throughout the course of one year. After this last class we wished all our students luck in life and told them to keep practicing their english, although I am thinking of returning to continue to project in the following year as I plan to continue the Service Learning course. As I said, the improvement I noticed this class when I thought of the first class was truly mesmerizing. We had the kids to conversational skits in English in which they would partner up and perform how one greets another in English and have a basic conversation with an acquaintance. If we had asked the kids to the exact same thing eight months ago, this would have been impossible. However, this comes to show the difference that Layan, Farida, Kholood and I have made in these children's lives and how much they have benefitted academically from this experience in our service learning project. When I was saying good-bye to all the kids, it was obvious that we were all going to miss each other dearly. The experience teaching the children at Fakroon Nursery was so entertaining, interesting, and inspirational that I would either like to continue the project next year either with the same plan or on a larger scale. I look forward to a brighter future for these kids now. :)
