MY SMART GOAL

SPECIFIC

My goal is specific because it focuses on improving each child’s disability at least a little bit, and having the children express their feelings through color. The children will be able to differentiate between what dark and light colors symbolize, which will make it easier for them to create drawings that portray how they feel.

MEASURABLE

My goal is measurable as there are several ways to find out whether it can be achieved. One way is when the children are able to draw meaningful drawings using the symbolic colors. Another is when our attempts at improving their disabilities start to work; for example, when one of the physically disabled children shows progress.

ACHIEVABLE

My goal is achievable because my group and I have been focusing on it since last year, and it worked. We cannot improve every disability entirely on our own, which is why there is external aid from doctors. Also, we believe the symbolic colors method can be easily taught.

REALISTIC

My goal is realistic because there is always room for improvement for these children, which is proven to us by doctors. The symbolic color method is also realistic because it is not hard to show these kids how dark colors symbolize sadness and light and bright ones symbolize happiness. There are some obstacles, however, including the fact that progress with these children is relatively slow, so we have to be very patient. We also need to learn how to manage our time and balance between school and our service project.

TIMELY

My goal is timely because my group and I plan on achieving this goal by the end of the year. The children will be able to express themselves through the use of color, and hopefully there will be some improvements with their disabilities. Even if the progress is little or slow, that is not a problem because at least the kids are happy and better than before.
